SAN ANTONIO – A man has been charged with murder in the death of his 22-year-old son after a recent late-night shooting at a local apartment complex left two others critically injured and three children briefly missing, authorities said.

The deadly shooting happened just before 11 p.m. Sunday at the Woodfield Apartments on Altitude Drive near Loop 410.

Officers responding to reports of gunfire found three victims inside the apartment: the mother of the suspect’s child, his current girlfriend, and his eldest son. All three had sustained gunshot wounds to the head.

The son, later identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office as Jose Rivera, died from his injuries. Both women remain in critical condition.

The suspect, 40-year-old Wilfredo Lopez, fled the scene in a pickup truck with three other children, according to San Antonio Police. The children were later recovered unharmed after Lopez was stopped during a routine traffic check.
