1. Desperate parents pleaded with officers to act during Uvalde school shooting, video shows
Desperate parents begged law enforcement officers to storm an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, in the frantic minutes after a gunman opened fire in one of the deadliest classroom attacks in U.S. history, police body camera video released Tuesday shows.
The heartbreaking videos show the agonizingly slow law enforcement response along with confusion and delays.
2. Texas Senate considers bill letting lawsuits target out-of-state abortion pill shipments into Texas
State Sen. Bryan Hughes, R-Mineola, filed the bill to allow private citizens to file lawsuits against abortion manufacturers and target shield laws in other states that protect manufacturers and doctors who prescribe the pills.
The pills, such as mifepristone and misoprostol, can be safely prescribed to women for inserting an intrauterine device, managing a miscarriage and other medical treatments, which Hughes says his bill accounts for.
3. Advocates worry drug overdoses will rise due to federal cuts
Fewer Texans are overdosing on drugs, but experts worry that trend may turn back due to major federal cuts. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported a nearly 27% decrease in American overdose deaths from 2023 to 2024. Advocates say more resources and access to naloxone, also known by the brand name Narcan, play a major role.
