If you’re just looking at temperatures, it may look like a moderate stretch of weather is ahead for the North Texas area. But you might want to check the humidity numbers before getting too excited.
The temperature on Thursday, Friday and Saturday is expected to be seasonably appropriate for mid-August, with highs of 96 or 97 degrees. But high humidity could make it feel much worse as the region heads into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.
The heat index, or how it feels to the human body outside, is significantly affected by humidity. Heavy moisture in the air can make it difficult for the body to cool itself through sweating, making it feel hotter.
Thursday, the heat index is forecast to hit 103, before climbing up to 105 on Friday and Saturday.
