Baby Racoons’ Heartfelt Rescue Story Tugs at the Heartstrings originally appeared on PetHelpful.

Wildlife and nature photographer Francois Potvin, who lives in Quebec, Canada, was out walking along the river one day, hoping to spot some ducks to photograph, when he came across a family of orphaned baby raccoons who looked like they could use a helping hand.

Francois shared a video of the adorable raccoons on Instagram, and everyone immediately fell in love with the tiny cuties. In the montage, he explained how he stumbled upon them and described it as a moment of cuteness he’d never forget. But that was only the beginning of their story. Watch on to see how their sweet relationship unfolds.

Francois explained more in the video’s caption, “At first, I didn’t realize just how young and vulnerable they were. But as I watched them, it became clear these baby raccoons were alone and in need of help.

This video shows the exact location where I found them. What started as a simple day of wildlife scouting quickly turned into something much more meaningful, a raccoon rescue story I’ll never forget.

Since that moment, I’ve been involved in helping these little ones find safety through a proper raccoon refuge. Encounters like these remind me how unpredictable and touching nature can be, especially when it comes to raccoon encounters in the wild.”

The Question That Many Commenters Were Asking About the Baby Raccoons

Commenter @margaretnicastro asked the question that many others were also wondering about, “Mommas leave them during the day to look for food. You sure she was gone? Raccoon mommas miss their babies when people take them.”

Francois replied, proving he had taken the proper steps before approaching the little raccoons. “The night before, I had built a box to place the baby raccoons in and wait to see if the mother would come back for them. When I arrived the next morning, they were still there and their body temperature was cold, so I had no choice but to go ahead with their rescue.”

@nic0lelovesfrogs also agreed that it was the right thing to do, “At that age, they would be unable to survive without their mother, so yes. Their little lives matter!”

We also adored @kerryoncloud9’s comment, “I’m convinced they’re called bandits because they steal your heart.” They are definitely cute babies and we’re glad that Francois was in the right place at the right time and able to help them!
