A man accused of throwing chunks of concrete at officers during a June immigration enforcement operation in Paramount pleaded not guilty Thursday to a federal charge.
Elpidio Reyna, 39, of Compton faces four felony counts of assault on a federal officer, court papers show. A trial was tentatively set for Sept. 30 in L.A. federal court.
The altercation, which landed Reyna on the FBI’s “Most Wanted list,” led to his arrest July 23 at the U.S.-Mexico border in a negotiated surrender, the FBI stated.
The defendant allegedly threw concrete rocks at law enforcement on June 7 on Alondra Boulevard. Authorities said a federal officer was injured at government vehicles were damaged.
The FBI released video and images in an effort to identify a suspect, whom they soon determined to be Reyna.
Reyna was initially detained by authorities in the Mexican state of Sinaloa.
After agreeing to surrender, Reyna was arrested by FBI agents at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in San Diego County and brought to a downtown Los Angeles federal detention center.
