A suspected burglar fled the scene after kicking in the door of a Northridge home Thursday night, prompting a police investigation into an attempted hot prowl burglary, authorities said.

Officers responded around 9 p.m. to a report of a break-in in the 17000 block of Murphy Lane, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

When officers arrived, they determined the scene was clear and that the suspect was already gone. No property was taken.

According to LAPD, the suspect forced entry by kicking in the front door. The homeowner, who was inside, screamed, scaring the suspect away.

No injuries were reported.
