PHOENIX – First Solar, the largest solar technology company in the United States, will relocate its Tempe-based offices 7 miles north to east Phoenix.
The new offices will be housed on the second floor of The Grove, an office building at 44th Street and Camelback Road, which also houses tenants like PWC and JP Morgan. First Solar’s offices will be 18,725 square feet, or around 2.5% of The Grove’s total space.
The news comes after the company’s second quarter results were “received positively,” according to Yahoo! Finance. CEO Mark Widmar said the company “progressed our domestic capacity expansion during the quarter,” with $1.10 billion in revenue reported.
Christine Mackay, Phoenix’s director of community and economic development, said the solar company’s move signals the city’s commitment toward “long-term economic growth and innovation.”
First Solar opened its doors in Tempe in 1999.
“We look forward to placing our Arizona-based team in a setting designed for performance and flexibility,” First Solar’s Samantha Sloan added.
RED Development oversees The Grove’s development and offices, alongside other city spaces like Biltmore Fashion Park, Chandler Gateway and Downtown Phoenix’s CityScape.
Mike Ebert, the company’s managing partner, called First Solar’s move “a strong addition,” adding “the demand we’re seeing speaks to the appeal of a mixed-use environment.”
