A possible armed driver led Los Angeles police on a pursuit through the Highland Park area Friday night, running through stop signs, traffic signals, and nearly hitting some officers, authorities said.
The chase began around 9:20 p.m. near North San Fernando Road and North Figueroa Street in Cypress Park when officers attempted to stop a vehicle believed to be a man with a gun, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The driver of the Black Toyota Camry failed to yield, initiating a pursuit throughout the streets of Highland Park and Eagle Rock.
NewsChopper4 showed the driver running multiple red lights and stop signs, and at one point nearly ramming into police vehicles. Sparks were seen coming from the wheel while driving.
Throughout the pursuit, the suspect stopped at least three times. The final stop occurred in the 6100 block of Piedmont Avenue, where he has remained, and where he has been on the phone with family members.
The first time the driver took off, he almost hit some officers as he sped away. He is now wanted for assault on four officers.
No injuries were immediately reported.
