A woman was arrested at Chicago’s Midway Airport after allegedly kidnapping two children and trying to bring them to their father in Mexico, authorities stated.
At around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, police in Aurora were called about a possible kidnapping involving an 11-year-old and 13-year-old in the 500 block of Rosewood Avenue. Officers learned a woman had arrived at the home, said she needed to take the two children out of state on their mother’s behalf and left with both kids, according to police.
Authorities eventually learned the mother never said anyone could take her children.
Chicago police later located the woman and both children at Midway Airport. Police arrested the suspect, identified as 47-year-old Cindy Sanchez of Fort Worth, Texas, who is a relative of the children’s father, authorities said.
Police determined the father, who doesn’t have custody, paid Sanchez to bring the children to him in Mexico through the Texas border, law enforcement stated. The children weren’t harmed, according to police, and will remain with family.
Sanchez, who was lodged in the Kane County Jail, was charged with two counts of kidnapping, two counts of child abduction and two counts of unlawful restraint.
