The Encinitas Coastal Rotary Club (ECR) presented donations to three impactfullocal nonprofits this summer, following the success of its annual Golf Ball Drop fundraiserheld in May 2025. Beneficiaries of this year’s event include the Boys & Girls Clubs ofNorthwest San Diego – Griset Ranch in Encinitas, Warrior Foundation Freedom Station, and Just in Time for Foster Youth, according to a news release.

This signature fundraiser—featuring a helicopter drop of numbered golf balls, music, food,and community fun—continues to be a cornerstone event for the club, not only raisingessential funds but building meaningful partnerships in the process, the news release stated.

Children share their hearts—and their art

During a special Rotary gathering to present the donations, youth from the Griset Ranchlocation of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego offered moving personalreflections on what the club means to them. For many, it’s a place of friendship,encouragement, and safety after school.

As a gesture of appreciation, the children presented a vibrant, collaborative piece of artwork to the Rotary Club—a colorful expression of gratitude that now serves as a lasting symbol of the bond between the two organizations. The Boys & Girls Club later shared their thanks publicly, simply stating: “Thanks for all you do!”

Warrior Foundation: Honoring our heroes

Founder Sandy Lehmkuhler accepted the donation on behalf of Warrior FoundationFreedom Station, explaining how the funds will support critical services for post-9/11veterans recovering from injury and adjusting to civilian life. The organization providestransitional housing, mentoring, and a pathway toward independence.

The Foundation also posted its appreciation on social media, writing: “We are so honored by this partnership. Such an amazing Club and so filled with positive energy! Thank you for your generosity and support of our local warriors.”

Investing in young adults exiting foster care

Also present was Rajah Gainey, director of philanthropy at Just in Time for Foster Youth,who spoke about the organization’s mission to support young people as they transition out of foster care. JIT offers programs in housing, education, financial literacy, and careerdevelopment—all designed to help former foster youth achieve lasting self-sufficiency.ECR’s donation will directly contribute to empowering these young adults at a pivotalmoment in their lives.

Reflecting on the event’s impact, Gretchen Mitchell, Rotary chairwoman for the Golf BallDrop, shared: “The Golf Ball Drop is not just a fun event—it’s a way to create real impact.
