For the past 35 years, coach Lisa Wheeler has been the heart and soul of Oaklawn Elementary, leaving a lifelong impact on every student, colleague, and community member fortunate enough to cross her path.
Wheeler has an incredible gift — the ability to make every student feel like they are her absolute favorite. Whether they were with her for a single year or many, her students carry her words of encouragement and belief in them long after they’ve left her classroom.
Her energy is contagious. She brings a level of enthusiasm and positivity to Oaklawn that motivates not only her students but her fellow educators as well. Wheeler always seems to have just the right words to lift others up, to inspire confidence, and to remind everyone of their potential.
“I had the privilege of working alongside Coach Wheeler for 13 years, and in that time, I saw firsthand how she forms lasting connections — not just with her students, but with their families and the entire community that surrounds Oaklawn,” nominator Ann diPomazio said. “Her dedication, compassion, and unwavering belief in others make her a role model for students and teachers alike.”
Coach Wheeler embodies the true spirit of education — it’s not just about lessons in the classroom, but about building relationships, nurturing confidence and making an impact that lasts a lifetime, diPomazio said.
“There is no one more deserving of this recognition than Coach Lisa Wheeler, a teacher whose passion, dedication, and heart have shaped generations,” diPomazio said.
