3 more Portillo’s in D-FW

Portillo’s was recently under scrutiny for growing too fast. When the Chicago-based hot dog and Italian beef sandwich shop expanded into its first-in-Texas location, in The Colony, CEO Michael Osanloo said it “almost broke the restaurant.”

Still, Osanloo said the more-than 60-year-old business will continue its expansion plans. The Grand Prairie location will be Portillo’s eighth restaurant in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Four more restaurants are next in Texas, according to a Portillo’s rep, and two are in Dallas-Fort Worth. Plans call for restaurants at Tanger Outlets in Fort Worth, Galleria Dallas, Lubbock and El Paso.

Dates for the Fort Worth and Galleria Dallas Portillo’s were not yet available.

Portillo’s will be at 3102 State Highway 161, Grand Prairie. Find other locations here.

Sweetgreen is popular for its build-your-own bowls and seasonal specials like a Peach and Goat Cheese Salad.

The company already has restaurants in Uptown Dallas, Lakewood, Southlake, Fort Worth and Addison. A shop in Deep Ellum closed in 2022 after less than a year open.

CEO Jonathan Neman said in a statement the team picked Snider Plaza because of its “unique mix of local boutiques, beloved eateries and welcoming atmosphere.” A hotbed for eateries of all cuisines, Snider Plaza is home to established restaurants like Amore Italian Bistro and Food from Galilee as well as newer options like Bar Sardine and Ramble Room.

Some of the oldest restaurants in the area are in Snider Plaza, including the original Burger House, open since 1951; Kuby’s Sausage House, which dates back to 1961 and Bubba’s Cooks Country, there since 1981.
