PHOENIX — A boy is dead after being hit by a car on Monday evening in central Phoenix, according to ABC 15.

ABC 15 reported that officers with the Phoenix Police Department were called to the area of 36th Street and McDowell Road for reports of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian around 8 p.m.

When police arrived on the scene, they discovered a boy had been struck by a car.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.

The identity of the boy has not been released.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the site of the collision.

The intersection is expected to be closed for several hours while police investigate.
