Friday morning, Democratic frontrunner Zohran Mamdani received major backing from Queens Borough President Donovan Richards.
He endorsed Mamdani during an event for the “Five Boroughs Against Trump” tour in Queens.
Eyewitness News is closely following the 2025 NYC mayoral election.
Friday is the final day of that tour.
“Today, I’m so honored to earn the endorsement of Donovan Richards, who fights for the world’s borough every day. We recently rode the Q4 in Jamaica, one of the five bus lines made free in our fare free bus pilot. Ridership jumped 30%, and everyone’s commute got a little bit easier,” Mamdani said.
Mamdani was also be joined by workers from across Queens who said they have been on the frontlines of attacks from the Trump administration.
But endorsements from top Democrats, like Rep. Gregory Meeks, who represents southeastern Queens, continue to elude Mamdani.
“So, I cant speak for those people who haven’t endorsed yet, but I think my stamp of approval speaks for itself,” Richards said. “Last I checked, he did win this borough. So, this is not about the stamp of approval from elected officials, whether its myself or any others. It’s about what the people said. I believe the people are going to speak loud and clear in November when they elect him our next mayor.”
Mamdani again said he hopes to get the support of the majority of New York City voters on Election Day.
