LANCASTER, CA — Authorities are seeking the extradition of a father of three after his wife disappeared from their Los Angeles County apartment building earlier this month.

A search team found Sheylla Cabrera, 33, in the Angeles National Forrest, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a written statement.

Her husband, Jossimar Cabrera, 36, is believed to be in Peru and faces extradition to the United States, according to the sheriff’s department

The investigation into Cabrera’s disappearance began Aug. 12, when she was reported missing to the sheriff’s department.

The next day, detectives were given surveillance video that appeared to show Jossimar Cabrera dragging a large object wrapped in a sheet-like material from the couple’s apartment complex in the 500 block of Lancaster Boulevard in Lancaster.

Members of the Montrose Mountain Search and Rescue team located Sheylla Cabrera’s body on Aug. 16. She was wrapped in a covering similar to the material seen in the video, according to the statement.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau is working with the Mexican General Consulate and the Peruvian General Consulate to find Cabrera after he left the United States. He is believed to be in Peru and faces extradition to California.

The children were found safe in Peru and are in protective custody.

The cause of death of Sheylla Cabrera is pending an autopsy by the L.A. County Medical Examiner’s Office.
