“Hazuki Yukata-kai,” an event featuring traditional Japanese music and tea ceremony, will take place on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 1:30 p.m. in Nerio Hall at Nichiren-shu Minobusan Beikoku Betsuin Los Angeles Buddhist Temple, 2801 E. 4th St., Los Angeles.

The annual recital is held as a fundraiser for the temple’s cultural classes.

There will be performances of nagauta and yamato-gaku music. In between the music performances, an Urasenke tea ceremony class led by Soetsu Ota and volunteers will demonstrate the Misono-dana style and serve tea and sweets to attendees.

The concert will feature a special guest appearance by Kisaku Katada IV, head of the Katada School of traditional music, who is currently in Los Angeles from Japan to provide instruction to performers preparing for the Yamatogaku USA 25th Anniversary Concert on Nov. 3.

Born in 1967 as the second son of Kisaku Katada III, a Living National Treasure, he succeeded to the name of the fourth-generation headmaster in 2025 and is recognized as a leading master of hayashi-kata (percussion) in traditional Japanese music.

Other performers include instructors Kimisen Katada/Kyosho Yamato and Yasoyo Yamato/Yasoyo Kineya, along with students from Yamatogaku USA, Fujinokai, Hokubei Yamatogaku, and Nagauta Shiki-no-Kai.
