Starting next week, the City will be holding a series of community meetings, including in East Dallas, for residents to provide feedback on recent plans to end diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

On June 25, City Council voted to authorize City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert to evaluate all programs and policies to ensure they either comply with federal directives or are paused.

To comply with a federal directive requiring grant recipients to certify they are not operating and programs promoting DEI, Tolbert ordered every city department to temporarily cease the use of programs and policies that consider race, gender, ethnicity, religion or national origin when making decisions.

According to the City, a grant compliance task force was created to evaluate all programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal directives. The task force will brief City Council in September.

The City is now seeking input from the community on recent actions regarding DEI programs and policies. The full schedule of meetings can be found below:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 4 p.m.: Latino Cultural Center, 2600 Live Oak St.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 6 p.m.: J. Erik Jonsson Central Library 1st Floor, 1515 Young St.
  • Thursday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m.: Dallas City Hall Auditorium (L1FN), 1500 Marilla St.
  • Saturday, Sept. 6 at 10:30 a.m.: Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 2922 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.: West Dallas Multipurpose Center, 2828 Fish Trap Road
