  • Canine Rescue of Central PA said Dallas was “exhausted” and “in distress” when they rescued her

A stray dog who spent days with a cheese ball container on her head has been named after one of her rescuers and the cheesy snack.

The canine has been given the moniker Dallas Cheddar after volunteer drone operator Dallas Fuhrman helped rescue her from the Dillsburg area of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, Aug. 20, according to Canine Rescue of Central PA. The rescue center said Cheddar felt like a fitting middle name after the pup’s ordeal, per local media outlet WHP-TV.

Dallas was first spotted on Monday but despite searching for the canine, volunteers were unable to find her until a camera from Nighthawk Drone Services spotted her in a cornfield in the early hours of Wednesday.

In footage shared by the Canine Rescue of Central PA on Wednesday, rescuers were seen comforting Dallas as they tried to lead her out of the field with the container still on her head.

“Dallas, the Dog with the Jar on Her Head – SAFE AT LAST. After two exhausting and emotional days of searching, we are incredibly relieved to share that Dallas, the dog seen wandering with a plastic jar stuck on her head, is finally safe and receiving medical care,” the rescue later shared on Facebook.

They added, “Dallas was first spotted early on Monday morning by a Canine Rescue of Central PA (CRCPA) volunteer. From that moment, our team and our incredible partners at FIND TOBY in PA sprang into action, determined to bring Dallas to safety.”

The rescue added that more members from CRCPA joined in the search efforts on Tuesday, as well as Bill Fisher from Drone Deployment Services, LLC and Dallas Fuhrman from Nighthawk Drone Services, who stepped in to help before midnight.

“At 3 AM, Dallas (named in honor of drone pilot Dallas Fuhrman) was finally located deep in a cornfield, disoriented, exhausted, and still struggling with the jar,” the rescue continued.

After being rescued, Cheddar was taken to Shores Veterinary Emergency Center, where it was discovered that she was a girl.

“Dallas is suffering from severe dehydration, is infested with ticks, and is clearly in distress,” the statement continued. “She is now receiving the urgent care she needs, and we are awaiting bloodwork to better understand her full condition.”

The rescue said that anyone who would like to support the dog’s medical bills can donate through Venmo, PayPa or their linktree.

“We’ll continue to share updates as she recovers. But for now, we celebrate a life saved and the power of people coming together for one dog who matters!,” they added.

The rescue also shared that Dallas was not up for adoption and any further updates would be made on their Facebook page.
