All lanes of Interstate 90 near Pembroke, New York, were closed Friday afternoon after a tour bus crash, New York State Police said.

Several New York-based social media scanner accounts reported the bus rollover and said dozens of patients required treatment.

The New York State Thruway Authority reported traffic backed up in the area. WIVB-TV in Buffalo reported several Mercy Flight helicopters were requested, and some uninjured passengers were taken to the Indian Falls Fire Station.

The New York State Police posted on X, “I-90, Pembroke- All lanes closed due to a collision involving a bus. Expect heavy delays and alternate routes of travel.”

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul posted on X, “My team is coordinating closely with @nyspolice and local officials who are working to rescue and provide assistance to everyone involved”.

Scott Wooton, executive vice president of Mercy Flight, told The Buffalo News around 1:20 p.m. ET that one patient was being flown to Erie County Medical Center and another to Oishei Children’s Hospital. Wooton said all three of Mercy Flight’s helicopters were dispatched “as a precaution,” and Mercy Flight Central in Canandaigua, New York, also responded.

Erie County Medical Center, the region’s major trauma center, “made our necessary internal preparations” to potentially receive patients, ECMC spokesperson Peter Cutler told The Buffalo News. Kaleida Health’s hospitals were also “on high alert and activating Hospital Incident Command communications” to prepare for possible victims, spokesperson Jacqueline A. Bett told the newspaper.
