1. Fate of Deep Ellum nightclub still up in the air
The future of a well-known Deep Ellum nightclub remains uncertain as city leaders and business owners grapple with how best to address safety concerns in one of North Texas’ largest entertainment districts.
Rodeo Dallas has been shuttered since early August, while Asana Partners — its property owners — are fighting in court to keep it closed.
2. Texas Republicans unite around plan to replace the STAAR test
There is a stronger push this special session to replace the STAAR test with three smaller tests given at the beginning, middle and end of the school year.
Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath defended the agency’s ability to design tests that can be administered in a class period instead of the entire day with a shorter grading time to address student progress from a norm-referenced growth perspective.
3. WNBA breaks single-season attendance record that had stood since 2002
With 2 1/2 weeks left in the WNBA’s regular season, the league has already broken its single-season attendance record.
League officials announced Thursday that the league’s 13 teams have drawn a total of 2,501,609 fans over 226 games this season, surpassing the previous mark that was set in 2002 when the league had 16 teams.
