Brendan O’Sullivan provides his prediction and best bet for Sunday’s Golden State Valkyries vs. Dallas wings matchup.
The Valkyries are narrowly holding onto a playoff spot, while the Wings have been eliminated from postseason contention. Nonetheless, they play each other in a regular season matchup on Sunday, Aug. 24.
Golden State is a two-point favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook. The over/under is set at 158.5 points.
Here’s my prediction and pick for Sunday’s Valkyries vs. Wings matchup.
Valkyries vs. Wings prediction
The Wings may not have a playoff spot this year, but they’ve found their future in Paige Bueckers. She poured in 44 points against the Sparks, looking as smooth as any player as ever looked.
It’s not a one-night instance either. She’s averaging 19.4 points per game on 47.1 percent from the field. She’s exactly the type of player that Dallas can build a franchise around.
The Valkyries don’t have that, but they’ve done much better in the present-day WNBA. They’re the eighth seed, but they’re falling apart with so many key injuries. Kayla Thornton, the team’s best player, is out for the season. Additionally, two others have been ruled out and two more are game-time decisions.
Golden State’s rotation is thin, and it’s hurting the team’s chances at a playoff bid. Even against a weak team like the Wings, it can be a challenging match with so few available players.
Valkyries vs. Wings pick, best bet
The Wings may have the worst win percentage in the WNBA, but they’re going to pull off an upset on Sunday. Golden State is crumbling with injuries, so Dallas should be able to control the pace.
In addition, the Wings are playing at home. They’ll have the advantage on Sunday and should pull out the win.
