Arsenal have emerged victorious in the Premier League against Leeds United, with the Gunners dominating proceedings in a 5-0 victory.

Mikel Arteta’s side have started off their Premier League campaign in fine form. After an opening-weekend victory against Manchester United, the Gunners saw off more northern opposition, this time on home soil, in Leeds.

And aside from Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard getting injured, it was a game to remember. Viktor Gyokeres scored twice to get his career really going, Max Dowman made his Premier League debut, and Jurrien Timber got two goals and an assist.

The latter was quite remarkable, and Arsenal players have reacted to this on social media.

Riccardo Calafiori and William Saliba praise Jurrien Timber

Timber took to Instagram after the victory to write the following: “Perfect day at home”, was the caption.

Naturally, after his heroics, Arsenal teammates flooded the comments. Here were a few of the notable ones:

  • Riccardo Calafiori: “Game changer”.
  • William Saliba: “The best”.
  • Mikel Merino: “Header after header”.

Declan Rice, Max Dowman and Gabriel also commented with numerous emojis, while Liverpool’s Jeremie Frimpong was also found in the feed.

Naturally, there will probably be many more messages to follow, but these were the pick of the bunch at the time of writing.

Jurrien Timber’s numbers vs Leeds

Timber deserves every bit of plaudits he received for his Leeds showing. The Dutchman was in inspired form, which was reflected in desirable stats on Saturday evening.

Are those the statistics of a defender, or a forward? Quite remarkable. Timber is now joint top goalscorer at the Emirates this season alongside Gyokeres.

Next week, Timber and Arsenal face the tough test of Liverpool, where once again he’ll need to be on his A-game. Can he defy the odds and get on the scoresheet once more?
