Upper Darby police issued a statement on Saturday morning about overnight police incidents.
From the post:
The first incident was in the 6800 block of Ludlow Street:
“Officers were called for a report of a fight. When they arrived, no fight was found. However, officers did find spent shell casings. It appears that a gun was fired in the area. If you were in the area and saw anything or have information, please call us at 610-734-7693 or contact us through our social media platforms.”
The second incident was at Burmont and Marshall roads:
“Officers responded to a report of a shooting. They found two males at the scene, one of whom had a gunshot wound to his leg. The investigation showed that the males had been handling a gun inside a home on the 3700 block of Randolph Street when it accidentally went off. The injured male is being treated for a non-life-threatening injury. The residence is that of the victim.”
Police didn’t provide times for the incidents but police radio traffic showed they appeared to have occurred simultaneously about 2:30 a.m.
Numerous shell casings were recovered in the first incident. Police alerted area hospitals regarding a potential walk-in or drop-off gunshot victim. It was not clear whether anyone was hit.
There was also a brief foot pursuit in one of the incidents and a firearm was recovered.
Dispatch notes showed that the gunshot victim is 15 years old and was struck in a leg. A tourniquet was applied to the leg at the scene, according to EMS radio traffic.
