Extreme heat in store before storm chances increase across Phoenix area

  • August 24, 2025

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It’s another hot day today with highs around 110 degrees, so we are issuing another First Alert Weather Day for extreme heat across the Valley.

There is a slight chance of storms again this afternoon. The best chance of storms will take place again in the high country and Southeastern Arizona.

Starting on Monday, the ridge of high pressure will shift east of us, creating a southerly flow that will bring a better chance of storms to the Valley. The best chance of storms will be Tuesday into Wednesday.

The chance for rain will increase on Tuesday with a 30% to 40% chance of showers and storms. Tuesday will also be quite a bit cooler with a high of 101. Wednesday will also be cooler with a high of only around 100! There will also be a 20% chance of rain on Wednesday.

We could see it all with strong winds, blowing dust and heavy downpours. The great news is that high temperatures will drop into the mid-to-upper 90s for Wednesday and Thursday.

By the end of the week, drier air will push in starting on Friday, and temperatures will return to our average around 105.
