HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — At least five people, including a 3-year-old, were taken to the hospital after a fire broke out at a home in northwest Harris County overnight, according to the northwest Volunteer Fire Department.
It happened in the 6800 block of Redding Springs Lane just after 3 a.m. Sunday.
Officials said crews were dispatched to the home and were met by neighbors telling them that there were people in the house.
Firefighters rushed in, but were met with burglar bars. Firefighters described the bars as an “issue” but said they eventually gained entry and found a woman and a child on the second floor. Officials said both were unconscious, and CPR was administered.
They were taken to the hospital, where they regained consciousness and were said to be in critical condition.
Officials said there were at least seven people in the home, and three others were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, and the other two were said to be OK.
The fire was sustained on the second floor, but was quickly contained, the fire department said. Officials said there was smoke damage throughout the house. It is unclear how it started.
ABC13 was on scene and spoke with the relatives of the fire victims. They said the victims had previously lost their home during Hurricane Harvey.
