SAN ANTONIO — Community members are expressing their dismay after vandals targeted one of San Antonio’s most iconic landmarks, Mission Concepcion.
Earlier this week, the National Park Service reported that vandals threw several boulders through the mission’s wooden door and stole a device used to determine moisture levels inside.
Following a mass today, both community members and visitors voiced their sadness and frustration over the incident.

“There’s no need for it. I think if anybody came for help, they wouldn’t be turned away,” one community member said.
Another added, “You put the house of God on there, and then still want to go against that. I feel like this is a lack of respect.”
“It’s hard to see something like that, or hear about that,” said another individual. “The idea that these buildings have been around for a long time, it’s a testament to people’s resolve through hard things. Yeah, it’s unfortunate. It’s sad. I don’t know what their goal was or what they were trying to accomplish. But just leave things alone.”
Service investigators are urging anyone with information about the vandalism to contact them by phone, email, or online.
