9-year-old found in a pool in critical condition

PHOENIX — A 9-year-old child is in critical condition after being found unconscious in a backyard pool, according to the Buckeye Fire Department.

The Buckeye Fire Department responded to the near-drowning incident at a home in the Sundance Park community just before 4 p.m. The boy was found face down in the water while a family gathering was taking place. Authorities said the boy was unsupervised for approximately one minute.

Care was provided before the boy was transported to Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s Avondale Campus, where he remains in critical condition.

While the boy was breathing, authorities said he required advanced medical care.
