Dallas Police recently broke up a group of dirt bike-riding individuals responsible for a “street takeover” in East Dallas and Lake Highlands.
According to police, officers of the Northeast Patrol Division and Street Racing Task Force conducted a joint operation on Aug 12. Beforehand, officers had received complaints about a “large group of motorcycles, dirt bikes and off-road vehicles doing stunts, blocking both directions of travel, and driving dangerously,” near Peavy Road and Buckner Boulevard on Monday nights.
Police say officers, who were in place ahead of the takeover, observed repeated traffic violations while monitoring the group on Aug. 12. Units followed the individuals to the White Rock Lake area and the 10700 block of Miller Road, near Plano Road.
30 citations were issued for expired or insufficient vehicle documentation. Two individuals, 29-year-old Alfred Jenkins and 26-year-old Jose Leyba, were arrested for reckless driving. Jenkins was also charged with unlicensed possession of a firearm. Police seized 12 dirt and e-bikes during the operation, according to the DPD release.
