CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) — The New York Carnival, one of the city’s biggest summer festivals, is back on Thursday in a celebration of Caribbean pride, culture and creativity.

Organized by the West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA), the New York Carnival is celebrating its 58th anniversary this year. The event is considered the nation’s largest Caribbean cultural festival attracting more than a million jubilant participants and spectators.

The festival culminates with the New York Carnival Parade on Labor Day, which marches down Eastern Parkway from Utica Avenue to a reviewing stand at Grand Army Plaza.

ABC 7 New York is a proud sponsor of the New York Carnival Parade, and will stream the event live on abc7NY.com, our mobile and connected TV apps, and on YouTube starting at noon on Monday (Labor Day).

The theme of this year’s parade is “Vive Le Carnivale,” with the event featuring dazzling costumes, pulsating rhythms and vibrant performances from across the Caribbean diaspora.

New York’s weekend-long Caribbean Carnival dates back to the 1920s, when it’s believed to have started in Harlem before moving to Brooklyn in the mid-1960s, where it continues to draw millions of people each year.
