A 33-year-old Jersey City man is wanted by authorities after being charged allegedly stabbing a Bergen County woman and trying to shoot her, authorities said.

Yusef E. Muhammad was charged with attempted murder in the stabbing that occurred on Aug 18, said Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella in a release.

Hackensack Police were called to Hackensack University Medical Center at 9:25 p.m., about a 33-year-old woman being treated there for multiple stab wounds.

She was admitted in critical condition, underwent emergency surgery and survived, authorities said.

The victim was allegedly stabbed in the torso multiple times by Muhammad, while both were inside her parked vehicle in Hasbrouck Heights, investigators from Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Hackensack Police Department determined.

Detectives determined that Muhammad, an acquaintance of the victim, also fired a handgun at her just prior to the stabbing, but she was not struck by the bullet.

After the woman was stabbed, Muhammad drove the victim to the emergency room and then fled in her vehicle, which was later found by police on Duffield Avenue in Jersey City.

On Aug. 19, Muhammad was charged with first-degree attempted murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree possession of a weapon.

Muhammad has not been apprehended and remains a fugitive from justice, authorities said. Investigators have learned that over the past few years, Muhammad worked as a long-haul truck driver.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Tip Line at 201-226-5532.
