Chicago man faces gun charges in Lee County

DIXON, Ill. (WIFR) – A Chicago man arrested in Dixon is accused of fleeing from police and having a gun.

Jaime Santiago, 59, of Chicago, is accused of:

  • Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, a Class 4 Felony
  • Aggravated Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Peace Officer, a Class 4 Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm Without Requisite FOID Card, a Class A Misdemeanor
  • Possession of a Firearm Ammunition Without Requisite FOID Card, a Class A Misdemeanor
  • No Valid Driver’s License – Never Issued, a petty offense
  • Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, a petty offense
  • Speeding (21 to 25 mph over the limit), a petty offense
  • Improper Lighting – one headlamp, a petty offense

Around 9:40 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24, a Lee County deputy was helping a Dixon officer find a vehicle that had fled from police.

The vehicle was seen on North Peoria Avenue near Dixon High School.

The deputy tried to pull the vehicle over as it was driving southbound on Peoria Avenue, but it accelerated to 55 mph in a 30 mph zone.

When the vehicle made it to Second Street, it didn’t stop at the stop sign.

At Third Street, the vehicle blew through another stop sign and crashed into another vehicle.

Deputies say a firearm was found during a search of the car.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office identifies the driver as Santiago.

He is released from custody with pretrial provisions in according with the Illinois SAFE-T Act.
