A multimillion-dollar park development aiming to spur economic activity and Klyde Warren Park-level connectivity to the southern sector of the city is set to welcome its first visitors soon.
The first phase of the five-acre Halperin Park project is tentatively anticipated to open in April ahead of the 2026 World Cup, Southern Gateway Public Green Foundation CEO April Allen confirmed to Dallas Business Journal.
The park spanning I-35E between Ewing and Marsalis avenues is about 70% done, with more substantial work slated to be completed by the end of the year. Recent work on the site focused on planting trees across the park; setting up the stairs and seating in the outdoor amphitheater, laying pavers for the promenade and installing the escarpment wall.
The second phase of the park development is still years away. TxDOT is slated to begin the design and engineering process for phase two of the project in the next few months. Allen anticipates it will be a few years before it is the foundation’s turn to add amenities on top of the park infrastructure.
