SAN ANTONIO – Firefighters were called late at night to a blaze at a vacant home, just hours after neighbors confronted two squatters on the property, one of whom was arrested.
The fire started just before midnight Monday at a home off Lamar Street near downtown.
Crews brought the fire under control quickly, preventing it from spreading, though officials described the structure’s layout as a challenge. A fire watch was ordered overnight to ensure the blaze did not reignite.
No injuries were reported, but the home sustained moderate damage. The cause of the fire remains inconclusive, investigators said.
Hours before the fire, neighbors confronted two people believed to be squatting at the property. One was arrested by police, while the other fled. Authorities have not said whether the incident is connected to the fire.
