Carlos Alcaraz’s new buzzcut hairstyle left Frances Tiafoe speechless before the American insisted it is “terrible.”

The US Open – the final Grand Slam of the season – has hit the ground running with upsets already happening in the first round as Australian Open champion Madison Keys fell to Renata Zarazua. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic got off to a winning start while Daniil Medvedev clashed with an umpire.

Before his opening match, Alcaraz warmed up and unveiled his new haircut to the world. Fans were divided online, while the official US Open X account compared Alcaraz to David Beckham.

However, others have not been positive. Tiafoe was clearly lost for words when he saw Alcaraz’s hair for the first time, simply staring at the Spaniard’s skull with his mouth agape.

Tiafoe and Alcaraz are friends off the court. The duo often engages in friendly trash talk while they also joke and laugh together, and both men bring positive showmanship to the court.

Asked about his reaction to Alcaraz’s hair, Tiafoe said: “Yeah, it’s horrible. It’s terrible.”

Tiafoe then added: “I mean, it’s definitely terrible. He’s my guy, though. It’s funny. I looked at him and I was like, ‘I guess you’re aerodynamic.’ Juan Carlos ‘Mosquito’ was laughing.

“He was like, ‘Yeah, he’s faster than he already was.’ I was like, ‘Well, that’s a problem.’

“Yeah, I don’t know who told him that it’s good. I don’t know who told him to do that, but it’s terrible. From a guy who gets haircuts week in, week out, and prides myself on good haircuts, it’s horrendous.

“At the end of the day, it’s Carlos, and that’s my guy. But yeah, he needs to get with me. He needs to get with me for sure.”

The new-look Alcaraz takes on Reilly Opelka at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday, Aug. 25.
