Fur will fly this weekend as nearly 75 human and dog teams compete in the Frisbee Dog World Championship, set to take place in the Chicago area Saturday and Sunday.
The Ashley Whippet Invitational competition will take place in Naperville’s Nike Park, located at 288 West Diehl Road.
A new world champion frisbee dog and human team will be crowned after the two days of competition, taking place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Nearly 75 human and dog teams from all over the globe are expected to attend, according to Ashley Whippet. The teams will test their skills in two areas: toss and catch, and freestyle.
The event is free to watch, and food and beverages will be sold at the event, with proceeds benefitting animal rescue group One Tail At A Time.
The competition has been held in Naperville since 2003.
“We are very grateful to the Naperville Park District and our sponsors for helping us make this event possible year after year,” said Naperville resident and AWI Hall of Fame member Tom Wehrli.
The AWI is the original and longest-running disc dog competition in the world, originating in 1975, according to Ashely Whippet.
