1. Mamdani says he’ll finish McGuinness Boulevard plan amidst ex-Adams aide corruption indictment
Last week’s indictment from the Manhattan district attorney’s office alleges Mayor Eric Adams’ former senior adviser and friend, Ingrid Lewis-Martin, helped kill a plan that would have transformed McGuinness Boulevard into a single lane for drivers on either side, surrounded by bike lanes after she was allegedly bribed by the powerful Argento family, also owners of Broadway Stages.
Lewis-Martin has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Now, Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani promised he’ll complete the original plan. Right now, McGuinness becomes a double-lane street on both sides after Cayler Street toward Pulaski Bridge.
2. Residents ask for better communication in Bronx Legionnaires’ cases
Bronx residents say they want better communication after health officials confirmed two cases of Legionnaires’ disease at their apartment complex.
The health department began investigating early this summer. Testing confirmed live Legionella bacteria in the hot water system, according to officials.
Officials are now working with management on an extensive remediation plan, which could take months or even years.
In a new executive order, President Donald Trump threatened Monday to withhold federal dollars from communities, including New York, that offer cashless bail.
The move was met with pushback from New York’s top leaders, and sparked debate on the campaign trail for New York City mayor.
Signing the order in the Oval Office Monday morning, the president argued that cashless bail policies are a threat to public safety. “No cash. Come back in a couple of months. We’ll give you a trial. You never see the person again,” he said.
