When you think of Los Angeles, movies, and the second half of the 1980s, a certain sort of brash and bold blockbuster might come to mind, the sort of popcorn flick that gave the era so much of its over-the-top character.
But something else cinematic happened in 1987: Los Angeles Conservancy launched Last Remaining Seats, the annual film series that gave fans the opportunity to enjoy classic films in an elegant and often underused movie palace.
And while Last Remaining Seats has been around for the better part of four decades, it has never materialized close to Halloween with a few fright films in tow… before now.
Prepare for the first-ever LAST… REMAINS, an October-themed version of the June event.
Two separately ticketed films, both with strong autumnal vibes, will shimmer at the Million Dollar Theater, one of Broadway’s most opulent and atmospheric venues.
“Young Frankenstein” is the matinee at the Oct. 25 event, so prepare to yuk it up, while “Carrie” reigns at 8 in the evening.
Igor cloaks and prom dresses may be the choice of many attendees, but you go with what your Halloween-loving heart is saying when it comes to what you wear.
A tour of the 1918 theatre is part of your admission; just note that the start times for both tours will begin well before each film.
And while the Million Dollar isn’t a classic haunted house or remote castle, it would be difficult to land upon a Los Angeles location that feels as velvety, and even at touch… spirited. The cinema, which has been a stately downtown presence for well over a century, possesses a presence that is as powerful as any film that screens within the ornately realized space.
Float by this site now and become a member if you’d like to secure your ticket by Sept. 2. Tickets for the general public will be available for purchase Sept. 3.
