A 69-year-old grandmother who used a walker after a recent surgery was hit by a stray bullet in the face and killed during a lunchtime walk in East Harlem Wednesday, according to cops and a friend.

Robin Wright was fatally blasted around 12:25 p.m. at East 110th Street and Madison Avenue by a shooter who pulled the trigger during a nearby robbery and then managed to flee the scene, authorities said.

The woman, who is not believed to be the intended target, was rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside by EMS – but she could not be saved, cops said.

“I just stood right there and watched my friend while she died,” said Juanita Arnold, who was with Wright when she was fatally struck. “Because she wanted lunch and couldn’t make it back?”

“This was not necessary. That lady should’ve never died like that.”

Wright often took walks as exercise to help with her recovery after a recent surgery on the veins in her legs, according to her friends and neighbors.

“She was looking for [her] grandson to walk with her, to go get lunch,” Arnold said. “She wanted some exercise. She was rehabilitating herself and getting strength back in her legs so I asked what she wanted to do.

“I will walk with you to go get your lunch. And that’s what we did. She never made it back but I did.”

Wright’s neighbor, Sonya Hampton, said she laid with the ailing victim on the ground as she took her last breath.

“I was just coming from the store and I heard the gunshots,” Hampton said. “I turned around to see where the bullets landed and she was on the floor.”

“When I get there, you don’t see no blood there,” she recalled. “I was trying to see where the wound was. Then I see the blood coming.”

“All I could do was just lay there with her. I couldn’t leave her because she’s my neighbor.”

The gunfire erupted a short time after two suspects tried to rob a man a block away from the scene, law enforcement sources said.

The duo ran off, but the victim chased and fired after them, according to sources.

When the pair returned fire at their armed victim, they inadvertently struck Wright, the sources said.

“I heard 13 shots. It started on Park Avenue,” Hampton said. “I was going to wait for Robin. I heard the bullets and looked to see where the bullets land and I see her on the ground.”

“She took her last breath right there,” the slain woman’s neighbor added. “If they would’ve covered her up right there, the community would’ve lost it.”

“Robin died right there on that corner,” said Hampton, who described Wright as “a beautiful human being.”

The chaos unfolded in the confines of the NYPD’s 23rd Precinct, where only two other homicides were reported this year, according to the latest data, updated Sunday.

During the same period in 2024, seven people were killed in the precinct’s confines.

Also as of Sunday, four people were reported shot in as many incidents within the precinct’s boundaries – down from nine people hurt in six shootings during the same time frame last year, the statistics show.

The deadly shooting follows a violent stretch in the Bronx where four people were shot on Tuesday alone – two of them fatally.

On Wednesday morning, three men were shot – one fatally – inside a building in the Mount Eden neighborhood, police said

Mayor Eric Adams has promised a “full mobilization plan” to stop the Bronx bloodshed.

At the East Harlem shooting scene, Arnold called on the mayor and the NYPD to do more.

“They need to clean this up. New York City is done,” she lamented. “I’m not saying that [Adams] doesn’t deserve to be the mayor again, but if you’re going to be the mayor again you better clean this up.”

No arrests had been made in Wright’s shooting by the late afternoon.
