Two men were killed and a third man is in extremely critical condition after a van struck two pedestrians on Roosevelt Boulevard on Thursday, police said.

A man was driving a white van southbound in the outer lane of East Roosevelt Boulevard and Welsh Road around 2 p.m. when he struck two men who were walking in the area, according to investigators.

The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medics at 2:38 p.m.

Both men who were struck by the van were taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. One man was pronounced dead at 2:49 p.m. while the second man was placed in extremely critical condition, police said.

Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims.

SkyForce10 was over the scene as police and firefighters responded to an overturned vehicle on Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia.

Footage from SkyForce10, the Citizen app and NBC10 photojournalist JR Smith showed the badly damaged van overturned and against a tree near a parking lot.

Richard Robinson told NBC10 he was walking to the gym when he heard the van crash into the tree. He then saw two men being taken away on stretchers shortly after.

“Could’ve been me. Could’ve been anyone else that was here that witnessed it,” Robinson said. “And we just have to be appreciative that it wasn’t us but also look out for the family of anyone else who was injured and of course just pray for them.”

The outer southbound lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard were closed at the scene of the crash. They later reopened to traffic.
