Jayden Denegal threw for 208 yards in his San Diego State debut, while Lucky Sutton posted his first 100-yard game to lead the Aztecs to a 42-0 win over Stony Brook in Thursday’s season opener.

It was a promising start to 2025 for Sean Lewis’ team. They posted 453 yards of total offense, after averaging 334 and 21 points in his three-win debut season.

Sutton scored twice and reached the century mark on 22 carries. Christian Washington and Parker Threatt also found the end zone in the blowout win.

Denegal was particularly impressive in the first half. He elevated a throw in traffic to Jacob Bostick for a 23 yard gain on their second possession. He then took advantage of a free play, finding Bostickwide open in the end zone from 25 yards out.

Denegal hit Mikey Welsh for a 44-yard catch and run that set up a field goal that put the Aztecs ahead 17-0. They led 20-0 at the half.

The third quarter started slow. After two punts and a turnover on downs, Denegal opened a drive with a 44-yard deep ball down the sideline to Donovan Brown. Sutton ended the possession with this second touchdown.

Lewis put backup quarterback Bert Emanuel Jr. in for the fourth quarter.

San Diego State’s defense recorded the shutout without forcing a turnover. They finished with three sacks and five tackles for loss.

SDSU is off until September 6, when they visit future Pac-12 opponent Washington State.
