PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – Two New Yorkers face jail time after they pleaded guilty to assaulting a U.S. Border Patrol agent.
Federal authorities say Richard Dominie, 22, of Lisbon, and Brianna Rathbun, 19, of Massena, admitted to the assault, which took place on March 12.
Dominie pleaded guilty last month; Rathbun pleaded guilty on Friday.
A U.S. Border Patrol agent, who isn’t named, said he saw the couple driving recklessly in Fort Covington and tried to pull the car over. That’s when he said Dominie got out of the car and aggressively approached his cruiser with a knife. That led to an altercation, and Dominie and Rathbun were able to escape and drive away. The car was eventually stopped with spike strips.
Both Dominie and Rathbun pleaded guilty to assaulting a federal agent and resisting and impeding federal officers.
They face up to a year in jail and a hefty fine when they are sentenced later this year.
