LA PRYOR, Texas – A major crash along U.S. Highway 57 has left one driver dead.

Around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, State Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety were called to the scene of the major collision near mile marker 424.

Investigators say that the driver of a black 2024 Hyundai Sonata, traveling westbound, crossed over the yellow center line and collided head-on with a grey 2024 Ford F-150 heading eastbound.

The driver of the Hyundai, identified as 25-year-old Omar Tarid of Richmond, Texas, was seriously injured in the crash and was rushed to University Hospital in San Antonio, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Ford pickup has not been publicly identified, and DPS has not released information regarding that driver’s condition.
