Police activity at the foot of the Ben Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia caused drivers to sit in a miles-long backup that extended into New Jersey Friday night.

According to a spokesperson with the Philadelphia Police Department, officers in Camden, New Jersey, tried to stop a stolen car with people inside who were allegedly known to be part of a theft ring.

The car fled the area in Camden and went over the bridge into Philly, police said.

Officers with the Philly police department were waiting at the base of the bridge as the car tried to squeeze through traffic, police explained.

Three people who were inside the car were arrested and officers said they found a gun.

SkyForce10 was over the bridge just before 9 p.m. on Aug. 29 where cars could be seen on the westbound side stuck in a standstill that started in New Jersey and stretched over the Delaware River.

No injuries were reported.
