MANCHESTER, NH — Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was one of three people injured in a crash Saturday night in New Hampshire, according to authorities.
The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. on northbound Interstate 93 in Manchester, according to New Hampshire State Police. A Honda HR-V driven by a 19-year-old Concord woman struck the back of a Ford Bronco driven by Giuliani spokesperson Theodore Goodman, in which Giuliani was a passenger, police said.
All three suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and were taken to hospitals, according to police, who said both vehicles hit the median and were heavily damaged.
Giuliani was brought to a trauma center and diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebra, lacerations and contusions, and injuries to his left arm and lower leg, according to his head of security, Michael Ragusa, who posted Sunday afternoon on X that Giuliani was “in good spirits and recovering tremendously.”
Ragusa said the crash was not a targeted attack and Giuliani was in a rental vehicle.
Lanes on both sides of the interstate were closed for about an hour, according to police, who said no charges were immediately filed and the crash remained under investigation.
Ragusa also noted that before the collision, Giuliani had been flagged down by a woman who was a victim of a domestic violence incident, and that he had offered assistance and contacted 911, and stayed with her until officers arrived, but that the crash was not related to the earlier encounter.
Police responding to the domestic violence incident, which was on the southbound interstate, saw the crash and crossed the road to render aid, authorities said.
“Thank you to all the people that have reached out since learning the news about my Father,” Andrew Giuliani posted on X. “Your prayers mean the world.”
The weekend crash follows some rocky years for the onetime Republican presidential candidate, who was dubbed “America’s mayor” in light of his leadership in New York after the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001.
Giuliani later became President Donald Trump’s personal attorney for a time and a vocal proponent of Trump’s allegations of fraud in the 2020 election, won by Democrat Joe Biden. Two former Georgia elections workers won a $148 million defamation judgment against Giuliani.
