Tuesday’s arrest comes as Operation Justice Trail concludes, one of Chief Daniel Comeaux’s first initiatives to target and arrest repeat offenders.

On the heels of Operation Justice Trail’s four-month completion, Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux and Mayor Eric Johnson joined the ranks of DPD’s Fugitive Unit on Tuesday as they set out to take down another one of Dallas’ most violent criminals.

“It’s just showing that the ones that we’re targeting and taking off the streets are the right ones that are going to keep committing crime,” Comeaux said.

The initiative was one of the first for Comeaux as chief.

As of Aug. 31, the Fugitive Unit and the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force have arrested 349 criminals and cleared 583 warrants.

The fugitives are responsible for more than 1,900 previous arrests.

“You’re taking out the worst of the worst here, so I appreciate you actually acting on that,” Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said.

After commands, flash bangs and drone surveillance, DPD arrested Christopher Alexander as Mayor Johnson watched.

“People have criticized what we call hotspot policing. It’s smart policing, it’s intelligent policing, it’s going after the crime where it’s happening, and it’s working,” Johnson said.

Johnson says the city manager’s newly proposed budget, which includes $60 million in additional funding for police and fire, will help give Comeaux the resources to do the job he’s set out to do.

“Not only do we want to be the safest largest city in America, we also want to be known as the most proactive police department in the United States,” Comeaux said.
