A 5-year-old Florida boy who had wandered away from his home was found “happily enjoying his breakfast” at a nearby Chick-fil-A by officers, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Police said Chick-fil-A employees called them to report the barefoot boy’s solo appearance at their restaurant.

When they arrived, officers found little William enjoying breakfast and lots of attention from the staff.

After some detective work and a ride in a police car, William pointed out his home.

Officers found that the gate was locked, and William had squeezed through it earlier.

“Officer Perri climbed over to knock on the door. You can imagine his parents’ surprise when they learned about their son’s morning adventure,” the JSO said.

William’s mother said, “It’s kind of scary, actually, because we didn’t realize what was going on until after we came out.”

She said she believed he had unlocked the front door while they were still sleeping.

“He’s never done that,” she said.

The JSO reminded parents to teach their kids their home address, parents’ names, and a phone number.
