JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CBS12) — A 5-year-old boy’s solo breakfast adventure at a Chick-fil-A led to a heroic rescue by Jacksonville Sheriff’s officers.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) said that little William was found enjoying breakfast at the Chick-fil-A on San Jose Boulevard, happily mingling with the staff.

JSO said that officers Kelly and Perri arrived and quickly learned that William had wandered off from home.

After some detective work and a fun ride in a police car, William was able to identify his home. However, they encountered a challenge: the gate was locked.

William had managed to squeeze through, but the officers could not.

In an effort to return William safely, Officer Perri climbed over the gate to knock on the door, bringing a surprising moment for the parents when they learned about their son’s adventure that morning.

A few weeks later, the JSO organized a reunion at the same Chick-fil-A, bringing together William and the officers who helped him.

According to JSO, William’s parents are not facing any consequences. They had several safety measures in place at home.

JSO said that this situation serves as a valuable reminder for parents to teach their children important information, such as their home address, parents’ names, and a contact phone number, which could be crucial in an emergency.
