There’s spring cleaning and fall refresh, and if you’re about to clean the closet, a group in Fort Worth wants to do something good with your fancy clothes.
“Bring dresses. Bring tuxedos. Bring them on hangers. And in return, we’re hosting an event to celebrate you,” said Christy Dunaway Smith, organizer of the Your Dress Their Dream event.
Tuxedos? Yes! For the first time, the group is collecting tuxedos, suits, sport coats, and blazers to help young men feel just as confident and celebrated.
Since 2022, the women behind Your Dress Their Dream have collected nearly one thousand dresses to help make prom and homecoming dreams come true.
“This is in our 3rd year, and every time we do it, people are like, ‘Are you doing it again? Are you doing it again? I couldn’t make it. I have dresses for you.’ And so I thought, let’s do it again. It’s been so well received in the years past, and I think we’re making it a yearly tradition,” Smith said.
The Your Dress Their Dream donation event happens Sunday, Sept. 7th, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Into the Garden at The Shops at Clearfork, 5188 Monahans Ave. in Fort Worth.
“Just bring a dress,” Smith said. “And if you don’t have a dress, we’re taking financial donations.”
The donations, the dresses, and tuxedos collected will go to two nonprofits that invite students to shop for their special event.
Prom Dreams at University Christian Church, 2720 S. University Drive in Fort Worth, is open now to help teenagers get ready for homecoming. Stop by on Thursdays from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
We’re All About the Dress, located at 6242 Rufe Snow Drive in North Richland Hills, is open on Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 5:30 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
Those shops offer dresses and tuxedos for free, and often, other special items make it to the donation event.
“People bring new makeup. They bring accessories, handbags, and shoes. It’s just been so well received,” Smith said.
If there’s something gathering dust in the back of your closet, now’s the perfect time to give it new life, while also giving a teenager an unforgettable night.
