San Antonio’s taco scene is about to get a fresh arrival — straight from Puerto Vallarta. Tacos On The Street, a Mexican restaurant that’s been serving up its signature carne asada for more than 30 years, is officially opening its first U.S. location at 22026 U.S. Highway 281 N #101 on Thursday, September 4.
The restaurant has built a reputation for keeping things simple: tacos, tostadas, and quesadillas, all anchored by thinly shaved, high-quality beef grilled over charcoal and finished with a rich beef glaze. Each tortilla is pressed daily, and diners can top their tacos with housemade salsas ranging from creamy avocado verde to smoky chile de árbol.
The new spot isn’t stopping with tacos. The bar menu will feature margaritas and a house jamaica mezcalita, plus sundaes using Van Leeuwen Ice Cream. While the brand is already available in San Antonio grocery stores, this marks one of the first times locals can find it on a restaurant menu.
Guests can enjoy the menu in a minimalist interior from Joel Mozersky, a high-end interior designer known for projects like Pullman Market and Brasserie Mon Chou Chou. The restaurant brought in acclaimed Mexican artisans for the ceramics and the building’s vibrant mural.

Using such top-tier talent may seem unusual for a fast-casual eatery, but the brand sees the Stone Oak restaurant as the first stage of a U.S. expansion, with the first U.S. outpost serving as the brand’s U.S. headquarters.
“San Antonio felt like the natural place to begin our growth in the U.S.,” said San Antonio-based director of marketing Natalia Bustamante in an earlier release. “It is a city that lives and breathes flavor, family, and culture — and that is exactly what defines us. We are all in on San Antonio. This opening is not just a launch. It is the beginning of a much bigger journey with this city at the heart of it all.”
To celebrate the San Antonio debut, Tacos On The Street is rolling out an opening-day special. Guests can score three carne asada tacos and a Jarritos for just $3.20 — a nod to the restaurant’s 32 years in business. Usually priced at $15.50, the deal is available all day Thursday for dine-in customers only. The first visitors can also snag branded tote bags stuffed with freebies from Jarritos, Twang, and more, while supplies last.
After Tacos On The Street debuts, the restaurant will be open daily, 11 am-11 pm. According to a previous company announcement, the restaurant will announce more details on its U.S. expansion in the upcoming months.
