☀️ The best of summer, by and for New Yorkers ☀️

Hey New Yorkers,

There was a moment this summer, as I biked the boardwalk in Rockaway, when I wished I could stop time and stay there forever. The sun was setting, and it dotted the sky with streaks of pink. People were everywhere — at barbecues on the beach, or on benches with speakers, or dancing to live music and DJs at the concessions.

You shared some of your favorite moments with me, too, like getting a new puppy named Will, and watching the Coney Island fireworks, or riding the East River ferry with a beer on a late August evening.

I love New York City in every season, but there is something magical about summer. We’ve had a near perfect stretch of weather the last few weeks, letting us bottle it up to fuel us for the rest of the year.

We still have one weekend left of open beaches and pools before they’re done for the year, and a LOT of things to do to soak up the final weeks of summer. Here are some:

  • See a Senegalese acrobatic circus troupe at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem for free, Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
  • Learn to cast a line with other women at this free Femme Fishing event at Randall’s Island Park, Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.
  • Get a taste of an old-fashioned, country festival at the West Side County Fair, hosted by the Riverside Park Conservancy at Pier 1 on Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m.

All good things come to an end, and this will be the last edition of Summer & THE CITY for 2025. I hope we’ve made the season a bit more fun and survivable.

As you get into back-to-school mode, sign up for our weekly campaign newsletter here — written by yours truly — to get caught up on all things ahead of November’s election.

See you next summer!

Love,
